ASMR Crafting Video with Pizza Perfect Nails

New Whispering ASMR Crafting Collaboration with Pizza Perfect Nails!

In mid-February 2018, ASMR Crafting with Gabby La La and Sayuri made our way over to our friend, Laurel Maha’s nail salon Pizza Perfect Nails in the San Francisco! Having lived in Oakland for 3 years, I always forget how close San Francisco was. I usually take BART to the City, but Gabby has a sweet ride so we rode via bridge to San Francisco for our nail appointment with Laurel.

We shot this video less than a week after I got back from my 10-day meditation retreat. I was somewhat nervous about making this video. Ultimately, making this whispering ASMR video of us at Pizza Perfect Nails was actually a really nice re-introduction to interacting with people after an extended period of silence and intensive meditation.  I was feeling tired and off this day, but working on this ASMR project with Gabby has been good for my spirits.

I had just moved away from Oakland recently so we were trying to do as much as possible this day in San Francisco. Gabby La La and I drove to the City the late afternoon around 3 for our appointment with Laurel at 5. We visited Needles and Pens, a cute stop / art gallery on Valencia Street (1173 VALENCIA STREET, SAN FRANCISCO, CA. 94110) to check out their wares, but more importantly to drop off my newest zine, Ritual. In true ASMR Crafting with Sayuri and Gabby La La fashion, we took this as an opportunity to take picture of ourselves with the zine self. That’s Ritual in the back!

Side Note: Somehow Gabby La La and I always match. This day, we were twinning hardcore with my pink puffy jacket and Gabby’s pink hair. Good good.

But back to Laurel Maha and Pizza Perfect Nails.  Laurel is sweet and speaks with a quiet and measured voice. By the way, we didn’t even ask her to start whispering for us, but she did. Laurel is a natural whisperer and a natural artist.  In her San Francisco nail salon, Pizza Perfect Nails, Laurel creates nail art that is precise, elegant, quirky, tiny, and precious – reflective of her training in Japan. Laurel had some recommendations for talented nail artists in Tokyo, Japan so I will check them out when I go to see my family in May!

My nail experience at PPN was my first one! I used to paint my nails with acrylic nail polish in my early teens, but I have never had my nails professionally done. My nail art session with Laurel was really special. Laurel specializes in gel nails which are stronger and last longer. The best part of the experience was holding my hands under the light for 30-60 seconds as the gel hardened under the light.

I opted to get my favorite two things done on my nails: Eggs and space. Here’s my egg hand. First Laurel mixed up a custom blend of fine glitters. Warm colors like golds, reds, deep purples, and oranges are my jam so she patted on a few layers of glitter. In between layers, I held my hands under the warm UV lamps for 30 seconds or so to harden the gel on top of my nails. The egg yolks probably took the most time to harden up.

All in all, Laurel probably spent about 90 minutes to prepare my nails and make nail art that was special to me. Each nail was a tiny canvas of joy. My nails made me feel so happy. I couldn’t stop staring at my nails for multiple days and complete strangers sincerely complimented them. Overall, great experience with Laurel Maha of Pizza Perfect nails.
